forked paths fork: supersoak

A video series from my MFA thesis project (Aug. 2008).

A rough draft of my relationship with my memory: I have an experience that emblazons upon my mind a new memory. Immediately I recall this memory, already a fallible interpretation of the experience. Having been recalled, the memory affects me at least in some infinitesimally small way. I recall the memory again, except that “I” has changed, and the changed “I” has changed the memory, perhaps in some equally small way. I’ve changed, and have thus changed the memory. The cycle continues ad-infinitum.

That relationship is now changing.

Experience, and the memory of it, is becoming increasingly externalized. The cycle of experience, retention, and reflection is packed and parceled for parts legion. It is rapidly transported into peripheral vessels: The SS Cardioid, The HMS Handycam, Starship Blackberry. It is tagged and it is labeled, indexed and sorted, the exactitude of a straight razor. The automata take care of the bits that our minds need no longer hold so tightly onto. And it’s only in some cases that the execution of the toggle, the push of the button still predicates the externalization of memory into our increasingly shrinking and disappearing apparatuses. As the mind is relieved of the agency of remembering, we’re becoming increasingly unable to forget.

Forked paths fork.

ACL 07: The Shakedown

Video adventure of Austin City Limits 2007. I sought refuge from Vimeo, as Youtube managed to mute the audio, without which this video is nothing.

ROOCS Tokyo: Anudda Vid

Another short vidlette from the Tokyo show. In this one, Pest performs Intricock.

ROOCS Tokyo: Ze Debriefings

So, I posted a while back about the Tokyo show I was way-lucky-enough to get a commission for.

It’s all brevity here, so I’ll be briev and just say it was fantastic. The whole ROOCS crew was extremely supportive and capable… absolute magicians at breathing life into the crazy octopus of wires set up at the Kinema Club (also a great, great space, with the biggest venue screen ever!). The arrangement of artists was eclectic, and their progression flowed well. Pest, who I accompanied, has a type of electro-jazz funk that I really enjoyed working alongside. I do believe you can see some of Maya Onoda’s installation work as well in this video.

Video samplet of the show/venue, Pest performing Pat Pong & Intricock

All-in-all, a success of an evening, and on top of everything else we (thanks to Ken & Adam) successfully threw a hot dog down a hallway, not once but thrice!… Pixx and it did happen

SF Show Saturday: Blood and Sunshine w/ Pink Snowflakes

Assuming we can wrangle a projector, going to be accompanying two excellent SF groups, Blood and Sunshine and Pink Snowflakes at The Connecticut Yankee in Potrero Hill.

I hope not to be impaled for time travelling.
